From 2004 to 2008, the China International Small and Medium Enterprises Fair (CISMEF) has been successfully held for 4 sessions. Jointly sponsored by the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, the State Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, the China Banking Regulatory Commission and the People's Government of Guangdong Province, the CISMEF has attracted 830,000 visitors from 30 provinces in China and 70 countries worldwide. It has been greatly influential in the field of convention and exhibition.

The CISMEF builds up a platform of "display, trade, communication and cooperation" for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), providing services such as "trade, purchasing, investment and financing guidance, project launching, intermediate services and international communications" for SMEs. It is popular with Chinese and overseas SMEs as it provides an opportunity for Chinese SMEs to go glable and those overseas to enter the huge Chinese market.

The 6th CISMEF will be held from September 22 to 25, 2009 in Guangzhou International Conference and Exhibition Center. The fair is composed of nine pavilions for various industries, namely, Electronics & IT Products, Household Electrical Appliances, Machinery & Equipment, Textiles & Garments, Footwear, Headgear, Cases & Bags, Toys & Crafts, Food & Medicine, Furniture & Illuminations, and Ceramics & Building Materials. Additionally, it sets up several pavilions with special features, like Investment Attraction for various Chinese provinces, Services for SMEs, Financial Services, Retail Chain Enterprises, Country of Honor, ASEM SMEs Communication and Cooperation, and International, Hong Kong Macau & Taiwan. With and exhibition area of 120,000 sqm and a capacity of 5,000 standard booths (4,000 for China SMEs and 1,000 for other countries and regions), the fair is expected to embrace over 250,000 exhibitors and buyers (guests) this year, making it the largest fair targeted at SMEs in China.

The fair is located in Guangdong, one of the largest manufacturing bases in the world, with first-class capacity of production and processing. There are 9 pilar industries in the province, namely, textile and garments, food and beverage, building materials, electronic information, machinery and equipment, petrochemistry, paper making, medicine and automible. In addition, service industries such as logistics, finance and exhibition are developing vigorously. The People's Government of Guangdong Province attaches great importance on the protection of intellectual property rights and the safeguarding of the lawful rights and interests of foreign business people.
